EU and US Hosting Locations
Articulate 360 now offers the option to create and store e-learning content on servers located within the European Union (EU). Previously, all data was hosted exclusively in the United States (US). New customers can choose their preferred hosting location before purchasing a subscription.
This expansion is important because many organizations and government agencies are now required to store not only personal data (GDPR) but also all learning content within the EU. Due to these legal and compliance requirements, the EU and US data centers are completely separated. It’s therefore not possible to share or transfer content between the EU and US environments.
For existing customers, the current hosting location remains unchanged. Since this may affect collaboration, content ownership, and future decisions, we’ve listed the most frequently asked questions below.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I tell which hosting location I’m using?
You can easily check your hosting region by looking at the URL in your browser:
- EU hosting: the URL contains “eu”, for example
https://[app].eu.articulate.com - US hosting: the URL does not contain “eu”, for example
https://[app].articulate.com
Are there any differences in functionality between US and EU hosting?
No. All Articulate 360 features are identical, regardless of the hosting location you choose.
How does collaboration with external developers work?
If you work with external developers or partners, make sure that all parties use the same hosting region. The EU and US environments are completely separate. Content hosted on a US server cannot be accessed from the EU environment, and vice versa.
Tip: Keep a few extra creator licenses under your own account and temporarily assign them to external developers. This ensures your organization always retains ownership of the content.
Can I switch to another server?
Yes, you can change your hosting location when your subscription renews. However, please note that existing content cannot be migrated between regions because the data centers are fully isolated.
What happens to content created during the trial period?
Content created during your trial is stored on the server (EU or US) you selected when starting the trial. If you choose the same region when purchasing your subscription, you can continue working on your existing projects. If you switch to the other region, you’ll need to rebuild your content manually.
